SCIENCE IN THE SUMMER - Leah Glass, left, from Mad Science of Tallahassee teaches laboratory classes about birds, chemistry and simple machines during the Brookwood Science Camp. With 22 students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade participating, the budding scientists are kept busy with field trips to Chehaw Park and the Flint RiverQuarium in Albany, the Challenger Learning Center, Planetarium, IMAX theater and the Museum of History & Natural Science in Tallahassee, the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab in Panacea, a riverboat ride at Wakulla Springs and a visit to the WCTV television station. Jenni Martin and Tammy Deaver plan and direct the sessions June 8-12 and June 15-19, with Brookwood Middle and Upper School students earning volunteer hours by assisting with the scientific learning experiences of the younger students.
