This Friday night the Brookwood Warriors will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Westfield. Brookwood will take on Terrell Academy in week two, who will also be looking or its first win of this young 2024-2025 season after suffering a 22-8 loss to Southwest Georgia Academy.
This is a very unique game for the Warriors, being a regional match up so early in the season. Its the earliest that Brookwood has played a region game since the 2015-2016 season when they hosted Terrell Academy in week one. The Warriors won that game 33-20.
“It’s unique playing a region game in week two. So, we’re excited about that,” said Brookwood head coach Shane Boggs.“I think it’s a big game for both teams. It’s going to have, obviously, a huge impact on region standings, but also just qualifying for the playoffs and seeding and all of that kind of stuff. In the end it’s like any other football game in that we have to play in all three phases and we have to play for each other and we’re going to have to be resilient.”
Coming into Friday night, Terrell boasts more of what Brookwood is used to seeing. A good inside run game as well as an effective passing game. Boggs described their offensive style as one that makes you “defend the whole field”.
This will certainly be a bounce back game for the Warriors. After losing 55-6 to Westfield, Boggs mentioned the need to find things to celebrate in those big losses. He highlighted the fact that they punted the ball very well. Of course, there are a bevy of things to improve on with a loss like that. Boggs specifically called out the Warriors kick return game as well as their pursuit on defense.
“We thought we pursued well at times last week individually,” Boggs said. “I don’t know that we had as many plays like we did against Pataula where we had all 11 running to the football. So, we have to get more guys running to the football, we need to tackle well, we’ll need to cover well in addition to that.”
Boggs also spoke about getting the entire offense to function well together and getting all 11 players on the field to play together in order to be successful.
Brookwood will face Terrell Academy in Dawson, Georgia on Friday night with kick off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
