The Upper School expands and further refines the programs begun in the earlier years. Working closely together, the three school directors, department chairmen, and faculty provide the strong curricular continuity that is the hallmark of an outstanding college preparatory education. An Upper School student spends his or her school day in an intellectually demanding, but supportive environment that allows each student the freedom to develop individual responsibility within the tenets of wisdom, citizenship, achievement, and honor.
Brookwood offers Honors classes at all levels and Advanced Placement (AP) courses in a variety of subject areas, including Science, Math, English, History, and Art. Enriching the traditional college preparatory curriculum are electives, such as debate. Cultural and scientific field trips enhance course curriculum, and Juniors and Seniors are invited to travel in Europe during the summer. Each year classes attend performances by the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Theatre on campus, and participate in a variety of clubs and teams that help to develop leadership, a spirit of cooperation, and service to others.
Brookwood graduates are accepted by and attend some of the nation’s finest institutions including Duke, Emory, Georgia Institute of Technology, The University of the South, Wake Forest, Washington & Lee, Vanderbilt, Agnes Scott, and the Universities of Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.
