Thomas signs with Elon
After a senior season that saw him put up over 2,000 all purpose yards, Brookwood’s TJ Thomas has signed his national letter of intent to play at the collegiate level with Elon. Thomas has been a backbone for the Brookwood offense as one half of the dynamic duo of himself and quarterback Rodge Waldrop. Now, Thomas will leave Brookwood and head to Elon, where he will look to make a statement as a freshman.
Thomas made his commitment to Elon, his first D1 offer, early on and cited his relief now that the tough recruitment process is officially over. When asked why he made his commitment so early, Thomas said it was the coaching staff and the family atmosphere surrounding the Phoenix that convinced him that Elon was the place for him.

“It was just the coaching staff and how much love they show. It’s such a family oriented college,” Thomas said. “They are built like a brotherhood and they weren’t just coaches who had a mindset of straight football, they want to make you a better person.They are real Christians and all of that and it was the aspects that stood out to me.”
Thomas’ Christianity has always been a very large part of who he is. The Warrior standout takes every opportunity he can to express his faith in God. He began his speech by thanking God for this opportunity and giving God all the praise.
“With out Him nothing is possible,” Thomas said. “He’s the one who wakes me up and puts me to sleep at night so, to give Him all the glory, you don’t have a choice but to give Him all the glory. He does
everything for you.”
“We live by Phillipians 4:13,” said Thomas’ father Antwan Thomas Sr. ‘“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’. When we instilled that in him as he was a little kid it just stuck with him along the way” Now, through his constant faith in God and incredible work ethic, Thomas is no longer a recruit, but a D1 athlete. The feeling of achieving that childhood dream does not go unnoticed.
“It couldn’t happen to a more special kid,” said Thomas’ mother Shacoya Thomas. “He’s very humble,
very hard working so, it feels good for him to finally live out his dream from a little boy.”
“I feel set now,” Thomas said about accomplishing this goal. “But, it’s only the beginning.”
On the field, Thomas will no doubt find success with a solid Phoenix football program. Elon went 6-5 this season and 6-2 in CAA Conference play. They made a statement this season with wins over Delaware and William & Maty, both of which were ranked number five when Elon took them down. The Phoenix capped off their season with a 51-14 blowout win over Hampton.
