The Brookwood Warriors golf team took home the win in their first two tournaments of the season.
“Obviously, we have a really strong team,” said Brookwood golf coach Jimmy Gillam.“ They’re relatively young and it’s the same line up as last year.”
The Warriors first traveled to Osprey Cove in St. Marys on Monday. JD Culbreth, who is committed to play golf at Georgia, led the pack. He finished as a low medalist with a 65.“ He’s really turned himself into a world-class player,” Gillam said of Culbreth. “It’s really fun to see him grow as a person as well over the last year and a half.”
Austin Baker, who is just a freshman, shot a 68 while Mason Howell and junior Shep Davis finished in the low 70’s.
The Warriors then faced region rivals Southland Academy, Deerfield-Windsor Academy and Tiftarea Academy on March 14 in a home tournament at Glen Arven Country Club.
Once again Culbreth stood as a low medalist shooting another 65. Shep Davis was able to best his 73 that he shot at St. Marys with a 66, the second lowest score for Brookwood. Austin Baker and Mason Howell each finished with a 71, Stafford Davis with a 75, Emmett Street with a 78, and Chip Rosser rounded out the Warriors scores with a 79 on the day.
The Warriors golf team will play a home match on Wednesday against Brookstone and Stratford before heading to Columbus to compete in the Brookstone Invitational at Green Island Country Club.
Located in Thomasville, GA, Brookwood School is a private school for grades JK-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
