Chip Thompson '17 wins the Quitman Cup
QUITMAN- The 59th Quitman Cup was held last weekend with two Thomasville locals taking home the cup championship.

According to Quitman Country Club Manager, Elizabeth Melton, the cup was a two-day individual format with a Friday night Calcutta and dinner kickoff.

During the kickoff, Melton saw quite a few Thomasville faces in attendance ready to tee it up on the greens.
“We had a great turnout of 144 people with 17-year old Trace Carter setting a new course record on the black tees,” she said.

Although Carter set a new record, it was Chip Thompson who was named the Quitman Cup Champion.
Thompson played in Carter’s flight and beat him by two strokes, coming in with a 68 and a net score of 141.
Carter tied for second and third with Luke Hylton, both who had a net score of 142.

Craig Wentworth of Thomasville was the Senior Cup winner, which took the gross score from the tournament.
Wentworth had a gross score of 147 over the two-day period.

First place net winner in the Senior Cup division was Steve Stripling, with an impressive net of 127.8. Second place net winner was Stan Weiss, who has a score of 131.8.

Melton was happy to see everyone enjoy their time and looks forward to another fun year next year, when the club will celebrate 60 years of the tournament.
