The Brookwood Warriors’ pursuit of their first win will continue another week. The Warriors traveled last Friday to Lafayette for their third road game in four weeks and were throttled on both sides of the ball.
Brookwood managed just 39 yards on offense, allowed 366 yards on defense and lost 43-0.
“We had a little bit of success early and did not take advantage of opportunities, and it got away from us,” Brookwood coach Shane Boggs said. “We get the ball first, and on our third-down play, we run a little wheel route to our back versus man coverage, had him wide open, and protection didn’t hold up to get him the ball. We just missed him.
“We get them stopped around midfield and create some offensive momentum. We rip off a couple of good plays, get it right around field goal range and take a sack. At some point, it started to snowball on us. It was definitely a disappointing night.”
The offense continues to struggle moving the ball consistently. A team that doesn’t have a home run hitting threat is set up to move the ball more methodically this year. It will need to improve on its third-down conversions. It finished 0-for-10 on third downs against Lafayette.
“When you look at it, sometimes they’re just better than us, and sometimes we’re just missing opportunities. In our film session (on Sunday) with the kids, they know that we definitely had some opportunities to make plays. When you don’t, then the momentum keeps building and it gets tougher and tough to stop,” Boggs said.
“I’m not positive, but this might be the only game that I’ve ever coached in where we didn’t make an explosive play. We define those as being a 15-yard-or-better run and 20 yards-or-better through the air. We had no explosives. We missed opportunities on game-changing plays.”
Brookwood has been outscored 180-46 in four games.
