Lady Warriors take down Wildcats in rebound game

The Brookwood Lady Warriors had a bounce-back win on Tuesday after a 16-point loss to Florida High.

The Lady Warriors dominated this game, holding the Wildcats to just 14 points and securing a 58-14 victory. It’s the fourth time in five games that Brookwood has held an opponent to less than 20 points.

“I think they’ve taken a lot of pride in making it hard for teams to score on us and their energy and effort has kind of turned up in that area,” head coach Nik Schweikert said. “A lot of credit to them for just the effort they’re putting in daily on the fundamentals of our defensive stuff. We’ve thrown a couple of different zones in there and they’ve learned things and they’ve done a great job of just picking up on doing things a little bit differently here and there and it’s made it tougher for teams to score on us.”

Despite getting off to a “slow start” and needing to rely on some senior leadership to get going, the Brookwood offense was also cooking. Their 58 points against Westwood is the second-most points they’ve scored all year and just the second time they broke 50.

“I think we did just a good job of playing together,” Schweikert said. “We had a balanced scoring attack and so I think something we did well was looking for our teammates and finding opportunities to get multiple people involved. We did a much better job of attacking the paint and we got to the free-throw line 25 times. We did not shoot necessarily well from the free throw line, but we’ll get there.”

The Lady Warriors will continue this long road trip, which will include games at the Deerfield-Windsor Classic against Sherwood Christian and SGA. Brookwood will not return home until after the new year, taking on Westwood at home on January 2.
