Both the Warrior and Lady Warrior Basketball programs showed resiliency in their most recent performances, bouncing back after frustrating losses to gain valuable wins.
The Lady Warriors were defeated on the road in Camilla Saturday night at Westwood, but responded by defeating Leon High School at home on Tuesday night, 56-50. In a game which featured multiple momentum swings, the Lady Warriors were able to impose their pressing and aggressive tempo on the visiting Lady Lions. Brookwood was led in scoring by Jordan Thompson's 18 points, complemented by Holland Walker and Mollie Vick netting 11 and 9 respectively.
The win improves the Lady Warriors to 6-2 on the season as they break for Exams. They will return to action in next week's annual Holiday Hoops Tournament here on campus.
The Boys were shorthanded Friday night in a home loss to Florida High at the hands of the visiting Seminoles. With no time to dwell on the defeat, the Warriors traveled to Camilla Saturday to play in a tough environment at Westwood. A dominant 22-8 run to start the game allowed the Warriors to win 64-57, improving to 5-2 overall on the season. Kurtis Brown led Brookwood with 18 points, followed by Harrison Owens with 16.
The Warriors will play at North Florida Christian on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in a re-scheduled game before playing in Brookwood's Holiday Hoops next week.

It was an exciting week of Warrior Basketball from start to finish. The Boys and Girls Varsity teams were the highlight, capturing wins that should build momentum for this season and into coming years.
The Warriors hosted Jefferson County (FL) High on Tuesday, winning by the final score of 71-50. Brookwood led from start to finish, taking a commanding 40-17 halftime lead into the lockerroom. Brookwood maintained composure and handled the Tigers' pressure in the 2nd Half and didn't allow any hopes for a comeback.
The Warriors had great balance in scoring, led by JP Chapman with 22, Kurtis Brown's 16 points, Jack Boltja's 15, and Harrison Owens finishing with 14.
On Friday night, the Lady Warriors defeated the Westwood School Lady Wildcats in front of a packed house. After falling behind early, Brookwood battled their way back and settled in during the 2nd Quarter. The Lady Warriors dominated the 3rd Quarter, flipping a 28-33 halftime deficit into a 48-38 lead going into the 4th Quarter. Brookwood beat the Lady Wildcats at their own game, pressing and forcing Westwood into mistakes. An exciting finish gave the Warriors a 60-57 win. The win snapped Westwood's 34-game winning streak.
On Saturday, the Lady Warriors returned to defeat Brooks County 61-37. Jordan Thompson and Erin Lewis led the team in scoring, each netting 13 points.
The Varsity Boys team took the night off Friday to prepare for Saturday's game against Brooks County. Brooks County came in confident after beating Thomas County Central by 15 on Tuesday night. The Warriors started strong and led the entire first half, leading 28-20 at the halftime break.
A flat Warrior 3rd Quarter flipped the momentum, giving the Trojans a 38-33 leading going into the final period.
Brookwood fought back to start the 4th quarter, as the Warriors took the lead on a 9-0 run. Sam Barrett's corner three-pointer put the Warriors up 50-42 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. A made free throw by Harrison Owens with 10 seconds left put the Warriors up 51-47 and comfortably in control. The Warriors smartly let the Trojans make a layup with just under 5 seconds left and held the ball out of bounds as the clock ran out. The Trojans were out of timeouts.
The Warriors were once again well balanced in the scoring column, being led by Kurtis Brown with 11. Jack Boltja, Harrison Owens, and Sam Barrett each finished with 10 points.
The win improves Brookwood to 3-1 overall on the season.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Dawson to take on Terrell Academy. Girls Varsity tips at 6:30 with the Boys following at 8:00.

The fifth grade students at Brookwood School were well-prepared to honor Veterans Day Last week’s assembly was a part of their year-long study of American history through the curriculum “Why America is Free.” The students opened the program with the presentation of the color guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Throughout the performance, each fifth grader had a speaking role about America’s history maintaining freedom through military support.
Students sang one stanza from each military branch’s service song during the performance, while veterans of those branches stood to be recognized when their song was sung.
“From the procession of our flag, recognition of each branch of the military, patriotic music, and narration by our fifth graders, our veterans felt valued and appreciated,” shared Lower School Director Mrs. Jennifer Newcombe. “This year, we welcomed approximately 10 veterans from many different branches of the military” Follow the performance, the students and families were treated to a talk by Captain Woodrow W Vaughan, USNR, Retired.
Capt. Vaughan spoke about the importance of supporting and recognizing veterans from all branches of service. He also emphasized the role that the United States has served in providing support and relief around the world.
Captain Vaughan was a varsity basketball player while a student at the United States Naval Academy and holds advanced degrees from Stanford University and the University of Virginia. Additionally, students at Brookwood.
“This program is a hallmark of the fifth grade experience at Brookwood,” stated Headmaster Dr. Randy Watts. “Our students have done a wonderful job of learning about America’s history and sharing their “Why America is Free” curriculum.

With the Middle School seasons already a few games in, the Varsity Basketball teams get to take the court for their first set of games next week as Brookwood will host its first Thanksgiving Tip-Off Classic.
The Girls team, which returns 100 percent of its minutes played and points scored from a season ago, will be led by Coach Todd Webb in his first season. All-Region players Jordan Thompson, Holland Walker, and Mollie Vick return to anchor an impressive group with sights on the Region Championship and the GISA Playoffs.
For the Boys side, the Warriors should improve in their second season with Coach Drew Giudice. The Warriors will have size, rotating in four players at 6'3" or taller. The team expects to use this advantage in rebounding and on the defensive end of the floor. After playing with an inexperienced roster a year ago, the Warriors are a more seasoned team which will contend in Region and into the Playoffs.
The Thanksgiving Tip-Off will be in the Beverly Athletic Center next Monday and Tuesday, November 19th and 20th. Fans can get a sneak peek at future Warrior opponents such as the Deerfield-Windsor boys and the Westwood School girls. See below for a full schedule.

Brookwood Warriors Levi Singletary and Bradley Cohen competed at the Georgia BASS Nation High School Fishing Classic this past week on Lake Eufala, winning the GISA Interscholastic Tournament that was held as part of the event. The pair has competed throughout the spring in various tournaments around the State, working towards the ultimate goal last Thursday and Friday. They were one of 108 teams that qualified and competed in the event.
On the tournament’s first day, conditions were tough thanks to the recent passing of Tropical Storm Alberto. The winds were high and there was muddy water to find bass in for the team. At the end of day one, Singletary and Cohen were at the top of the leaderboard with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 19.39 lbs. Day two presented its own challenges for the participants as the weather grew hotter and the sun emerged. Fishing was tougher for the team and they brought a 5-fish limit weighing 12.73 lbs to the scale for a two day total weight of 32.12 lbs. After a long wait watching the remaining teams weigh in, the Fishing Warriors were announced as 4th place overall and 1st within the GISA.
Their impressive finish earned the Fishing Warriors a spot in the Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School Series National Championship presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. Nationals will be in Paris, Tennessee on Kentucky Lake in early August.
