Warriors demolish Panthers

Brookwood’s boys basketball team continued its winning ways Friday against GIAA region rival Tiftarea.

The Warriors stifled the Panthers through three quarters and cruised to a 63-51 victory. Brookwood used a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures, including Jordyn Jean’s team-leading 14 points, while 6-foot-8 center Walker Jackson finished with a double-double and also nine blocked shots.

Brookwood improved to 17-2 and stayed undefeated in region play with a 4-0 record.

“This has been a really good week for us to go 3-0,” Brookwood coach Nate VanDuyne said. “To come into an environment like this and finish out the week, because it’s been an emotionally exhausting week, you’d rather win ugly than have to lose and learn as they like to say. We do have a lot to take away from this one.”

Jean connected on a pair of 3s and finished 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Jackson and Roscoe Jones each tallied 12 points, while Levi Williams chipped in 11. The Warriors built a 51-31 lead after three quarters but failed to finish like Van-Duyne would have preferred.

“They’re (Tiftarea) a good team despite their record. They’re definitely a top-half team in the region. It never felt like we had control of it, even though I think we got it up to 25 there in the second half. We’ve got to do a better job  of closing out games,” VanDuyne said. “Our passing was all over the place. That was the biggest thing they had going for them; they were getting hands on balls and able to get some run-outs and things like that. We’ve got to sure up that end of it.”
