Lady Warriors drop region game

The Brookwood Lady Warriors struggled to keep pace with GIAA region foe Tiftarea Academy Friday night.

Brookwood’s offense never found a rhythm, while its defense failed to match Tiftarea’s energy and contain the Lady Panthers’ offensive execution. It led to a Tiftarea 48-39 victory.

“We weren’t very efficient offensively. Give Tiftarea a lot of credit, they did a good job on the defensive end, causing some turnovers. They made some big shots, and we didn’t. That was kind of the difference in the game,” Brookwood coach Jerry Ridley said. “Sometimes the ball falls your way and sometimes it doesn’t. You’ve just got to overcome it and find a way to win. We have in the past and didn’t tonight.”

The Lady Warriors trailed 17-7 after the first quarter, 2716 at halftime and never could mount a serious threat at the Lady Panthers’ lead at any point in the game.

Morgan Boggs paced the Brookwood offense with 15 points, including connecting on three 3s. Ainsley Jacobson scored nine points, while Maddie Duncan added eight.

Brookwood dropped to 12-3 and 1-3 in region play after starting the season 11-0.

“You get out of (this slump) by playing together and working hard. All I know to do is give them an opportunity to work and they have to come and go to work,” Ridley said. “I’m thinking they will. I think that they will respond.”

Brookwood will return to the hardwood on Tuesday at Valwood.
