Thomasville locals represent in CFB week two

William Huff
It was a solid week for Thomasville locals on the college football scene in week two. Though not as many saw the field, two made major contributions to their teams.

Two former Yellow Jackets did not record stats, but did see the field in Malachi Thomas at Pitt and Adam Hopkins at Charlotte. Hopkins is still looking for his first winning experience with the 49ers, but Thomas and the Panthers secured a massive 19 point comeback for a 28-27 win over Cincinnati. Central’s Rylan McDowell got his first taste of college football as LaGrange as they took a tough loss in their first game of the season to East Texas Baptist University. Ty Brown also got his first look at the collegiate line of scrimmage as he took the field for Valdosta State in their second win of the season over Newberry.

Hard hitting state champions Caleb Anderson and Clayton Hutto took the field for UPIKE in a 23-20 loss to Georgetown. Anderson came up with a pair of tackles in the game while Hutto secured a single tackle.

However, it was a pair of running backs from Thomasville that stole the show in week two. Former Yellow Jacket turned Peru State Bobcat Ricky Fulton led his team in rushing with 107 yards and a touchdown on ten carries in a 37-3 win over Central Methodist. Over in North Carolina, the Elon Pheonix secured their first win with a 41-19 victory over N.C. Central. Former Brookwood Warrior TJ Thomas led the way for the Phoenix as he rushed for a team leading 163 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. The explosive back also averaged 14.8 yards per carry.

Most of the Thomasville locals will be back in action in week three except for the Yellow Jackets Jimmy Dawson, who will be on a bye week with Albany State.
