Brookwood’s Shep Davis has proven he’s one of the top golfers in the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA). He’ll next be able to prove his mettle on the collegiate level.
The Brookwood senior announced via social media that he is committed to play golf for Cornell University.
“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic journey at Cornell University,” Davis wrote. “I am thankful for God, my family, friends, coaches and their support throughout this journey. I am looking forward to this opportunity. Go Big Red!”
Davis plans to study agriculture sciences in college. He talked about his initial trip to the college campus.
“I went up about a month ago and it was a very pretty campus. I liked the facilities a lot,” Davis said. “I’ve been talking to the coach for a while. I like all the kids up there. It’s a great opportunity to go to Cornell, the academics and stuff like that.
“I like the coach a lot. I also just like the environment. I think it’ll be really good for me. It’s a great place to be.”
As for now, Davis hopes to end his Brookwood career on top. He’ll have plenty of help for a Brookwood squad expected to vie for another state championship.
“Hopefully, we can get one more state championship before I leave. We have John Daniel Culbreth and Mason Howell, and they’re going to UGA,” Davis said. “Hopefully, we can finish out with one more.”
Located in Thomasville, GA, Brookwood School is a private school for grades JK-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
