The Brookwood Warriors boys basketball team secured a blowout win on Tuesday night over Westwood. The Warrior decimated Westwood 69-29 in a game that may have given them their mojo back.
For Brookwood, Tuesday night’s win signified a potential end to the Warrior’s recent shooting woes. Not because they shot particularly well, in fact they didn’t, but because a big win is always a good jolt of energy. Before Tuesday night, the Warriors had scored 50 or less in back-to-back games Against Crossroad they shot in the 30% range, against FSU they shot in the 40% range, and even struggled shooting against Westwood. A lot of Brookwood’s 58 points came in transition and easy layups.
“From the three-point line we just didn’t shoot it to what we know we can,” said head coach Nate VanDuyne about the Westwood game. “We just can not become frustrated with the process, because right now I feel like the process is good. We just have to keep on moving forward with it.”
Earlier in the season, Brookwood showed they were very capable of shooting lights out. The Warriors had a pair of wins against Mount Paran and Eagles Landing at the Truett-McConnell Thanksgiving Classic in which they scored 60 plus and shot very well.
“I think if you look any our shooting numbers in that Thanksgiving week and even before we were shooting effectively 50% range to even up at Truett McConnell we were in the 60% range for both of those games and those were high caliber teams that we were playing,” Vanduyne said.
Despite not shooting particularly well, VanDuyne hopes that the 39-point victory will give his team the jolt they need.
“We’re still tuned it… It’s just a matter of whether the ball goes in the hoop or not.” Next week Brookwood will participate in their second tournament of the year, the Deerfield Classic.
There they will take on Sherwood Christian and SGA before returning home for a rematch against Westwood at home on January 2.
