Second Graders Complete 10th Annual “Ikidarod” Relay

Brookwood School’s second grade students recently participated in the 10th annual “Ikidarod” relay, a simulated version of the famed Iditarod sled dog race.

After studying the historical significance of the Iditarod and the original 1925 serum run to Nome, Alaska, students formed relay teams and were challenged to safely transport a raw egg—representing the life saving medicine—across the course. The event reinforced lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and problem solving, while making history memorable and interactive.

Now in its 10th year, the “Ikidarod” relay has become a beloved Brookwood tradition, giving students a deeper appreciation for the resilience and determination of those who once completed the historic journey.
