Warriors excited following camp

A strong two weeks of spring practice has the Brookwood Warriors optimistic and rejuvenated heading into the summer.

Head coach Shane Boggs talked about his team’s work this spring.

“I thought we had a great spring practice. They give you 10 days, and we were able to get eight of them in. I think even in spring practice, you’re able to see some of the growth, not just from some of the younger guys but also from some of the guys that have been around and played meaningful roles for you for a year or two,” Boggs said. “I was very pleased with what I saw there.

“We got coach (Daryl) Jones hired to be our defensive coordinator. I think he and the defensive staff did a great job, getting to see some passion and some real energy which I thought was infectious.”

Like every year, Brookwood loses its share of seniors and key contributors. The Warriors graduated eight seniors from last year’s 6-5 team, including star quarterback Rodge Waldrop and electrifying running back TJ Thomas.

But the Warriors do have a new addition to the program in Daryl Jones. The former defensive coordinator at Thomasville provides a wealth of coaching experience for the Warriors. He has served as a head coach at multiple schools while serving on Mark Richt’s coaching staff at the University of Georgia for a couple of years.

Brookwood’s first camp experience will be at Florida State on June 5. It will consist of 7-on-7 competitions and a big-man camp for linemen. It will also travel to Auburn and then back to Florida State. It will also make its annual trip to Tennessee for a summer camp with schools in that area. “It’s a pretty thorough summer again,” Boggs said.
