Both had moments of greatness during last week’s win. Hightower completed 10 of 16 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown, occurring on the Warriors’ opening drive. Waldrop finished 7 of 12 for 65 yards and one touchdown, with his score coming in the fourth quarter. It followed a missed touchdown toss that Waldrop overthrew on third down. The touchdown throw to Sam Yokley capped the scoring.
“He missed the wheel route, got down on himself a little bit; we thought we had something and called timeout and got Sam Yokley down the middle. Protection did not hold up and he did a good job sliding around in the pocket and buying a little bit of time,” Boggs said. “It’s crazy how great a throw that was with a guy hitting him just as he threw it. That was a big time play.”
They have the physical tools to be viable options orchestrating Boggs’ offense this year, but they also possess the competitiveness to be a leader on offense, defense or on the sideline.
“I think it’s great to have two quarterbacks who you can run the football with and are going to compete on defense. It’s amazing to me watching both of them and just some of the things they bring to the table,” Boggs said. “They were disciplined in their decision making, they didn’t make dumb throws. Both of them proved that they can throw the ball on time accurately. Both of them proved that they can extend plays.”
Now it’s time to see how they perform in a regular season game. Kickoff at Westfield is slated for 7:30 p.m.
