Four Warriors signed to continue their athletics careers in Brookwood’s Beverly Athletic Center on Thursday morning. Basketball star Walker Jackson, All-Region cross country and track athlete Kent Grayson, and golf state champions Shep Davis and JD Culbreth put pen to paper in front of students, coaches, and faculty.

“It shows a lot about Brookwood students and their coaches,” said Brookwood Athletic Director Jenny Lauderdale. “We have dedicated students, we have dedicated coaches, and we’re a community building leaders and I think these four boys represent that perfectly. They are leaders on their teams.”

The individual success that these athletes have had has been inspiring to their fellow Brookwood students and has been rewarded with offers from a Division II and D III program, an SEC school, and an Ivy League program.

Walker Jackson will be playing basketball at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Kent Grayson has signed on to run cross country and track at Sewanee. JD Culbreth will play golf at Georgia, and Shep Davis will play golf at Cornell.

“I think it speaks volumes to these kids. Two of the boys have been here since junior kindergarten, two have been here since kindergarten,” Lauderdale said. “So, they are homegrown Brookwood athletes and they have put in the time and they have put in the work and they are a shining example to these younger student-athletes of what they can be if they work hard.”

These Warriors signed on Thursday morning in front of an unusually large amount of students. The stands in the Beverly Athletic Center were filled with middle-school and upper-school students.

“We were very intentional on that,” Lauderdale said. “We want multi-sport athletes here, we depend on multi-sport athletes at a school of our size. So we wanted the middle school and the upper-school students. Their first-grade buddies were brought in to see them signing. It’s a big day and we want these kids to hear the words that they earned this day. This wasn’t given to them, they earned it. Start young and you can be here one day too.”
