Brookwood seeking confidence, first win

The Brookwood Warriors (0-4) are still searching for that elusive first win of the season. Maybe more importantly, they are looking to regain some confidence halfway through the season.

Brookwood will travel to Southland Academy on Friday in pursuit of its first victory since Oct. 27 of last season.

“That’s one of the things you worry about the most. I’m sure that this has taken its toll on them and others in the organization, but (Sunday) at film time, they were great. They were here. They were engaged,” said Brookwood coach Shane Boggs, following his team’s 43-0 loss at Lafayette (Florida). “It’s so cliché, but whether it’s football or life, you’ve just got to play the next play. If there’s anything I’m really pleased with, it’s their mindset in terms of coming back and trying to win the next play and the next game, the next practice.

“I told somebody last week, we need something good to happen in a hurry.”

That positive development may come Friday night. Much like the Warriors have struggled through the first four weeks, so, too, have the Raiders. They are 0-4 as well and have managed just 34 points all season.

“They’ve got a big line of scrimmage. They’ve got one of the better returning linemen in the region and are playing him on the D-line; sometimes playing him on the O-line and sometimes at fullback,” Boggs said. “On offense, it’s wing-T, some mis-direction. Defensively, we’ve seen them play so many different styles of offense, they’re defending so many different styles, so it’s hard to peg their defensive base.

“We have both struggled to find success, but I see a team that plays hard. Hopefully, that’s what people see when they look at us. It really should be a good game this Friday night in Americus.”
