Warriors Cross-Country Advance to State

The Brookwood boys and girls varsity cross-country teams both qualified to advance to the State Competition after competing this week at the GIAA Region 3 AAA Championships at Albany State University.

Boys varsity placed 2nd overall while girls varsity finished 3rd.

The Warrior boys had a team average time of 18:14, the fastest for a Brookwood team at a Region meet in over a decade. The Lady Warriors had a team average of 26:44, their best composite time at a Region Championship since 2020.

Standout performances included Wesley Warren ‘27 taking 3rd place with a new personal record of 16:42; KentGrayson ‘25 placing 6th with a new season best of 17:54; Matthew Lauderdale ‘25 achieving a breakthrough PR of 18:18; and Will Kadel ’25 running a 20:21 just three days prior to running his first marathon. For the girls, Abby Stalvey ‘25 broke a four-year-old PR with a time of 23:28 and placed 6th overall. Running her second 5k ever with a time of 24:01, eighth grader Olivia Mizell finished in the top 10. Her sister, Audrey Mizell ‘26, achieved a new PR with a time of 28:42.

Head Coach Alex Papanicolopoulos shared, “Every athlete on the team went into this meet with a mentality of going for broke. I could tell at every mile mark that our runners were committed to leaving nothing in the tank. They took every mile fast knowing that months of hard work would carry them through to the end. It's days like this that make you feel grateful to be a coach.”
